Eat Stop Eat – Unusual But Effective Weight Loss

by Eat Stop Eat Admin on August 22, 2011

The hottest new diet revolution is here! Eat Stop Eat uses advanced scientific weight loss techniques to help you burn fat 24 hours a day – even while you are sleeping!!

Eat Stop Eat is the name of a revolutionary diet program that has been developed by respected nutritional scientist Brad Pilon. What makes this diet different from the rest of the crowd is that it uses a novel approach to help you lose weight – it uses a technique called intermittent fasting.

Intermittent fasting requires you to go without any food for a fixed period of time, usually for 24 hours, and it really is a breakthrough in the science of weight loss.

In some ways this may sound like a bad way to lose weight but the results are actually very surprising. Conventional wisdom tells us that while you are fasting your body will effectively ‘hold on to’ your fat and only use it sparingly because it thinks that food has become scarce. Its a survival instinct that is hard wired into us, and there’s nothing that you can do about it. The net effect of this is simple, if you fast for long periods of time then you will lose weight slowly and when you start eating again you will pile it straight back on – just ask any yo-yo dieter!  Well, at least that’s how conventional thinking goes.

The fact of the matter, though, is quite different. What actually happens with intermittent fasting is that your body actually produces higher levels of  fat burning enzymes and because its a short fast your metabolism will actually be increased, leading to accelerated fat loss.

Food For Thought

Ok, so its all good in theory but is there any evidence to back this up? Well, I have to say that one of the things that I really enjoyed about Eat Stop Eat is the fact that Brad includes a lot of in-depth scientific analysis taken from several well respected  studies that show the real shocking truth surrounding the dieting industry. This is no wishy-washy flim-flam product, Brad is a nutritional scientist by profession and his expertise really shines through in this book. He shows us that the whole industry has been misleading us for years by selling us faddy products that actually keep us fat – and keep them rich! The sad fact of the matter is that most of the conventional dieting products that you have ever tried will probably have been ineffectual and may, in fact, even have been contributing to your problems.

Another popular myth that is de-bunked early on in the book is that you dont need to eat six times a day to ‘stoke’ your metabolism or ‘supercharge’ your weight loss efforts. In fact the only people that these kinds of diet regimes help are the food companies. In fact, Eat Stop Eat contains a whole wealth of advice and information that makes it a must have weight loss guide reference. Here are my highlights:

Eat Stop Eat Highlight #1: Theres No ‘Right Way’ Or ‘Wrong Way’ To Diet

While there are general guidelines to follow (cut out fatty foods, eat more vegetables – that kind of thing) it is still possible to develop a great looking body without embarking on a starvation diet. The most important thing about any diet regime is being able to adapt it to your own specific circumstances, lifestyle and body type. Eat Stop Eat helps you to do this with great effect.

Similarly, for years body builders consumed copious amounts of carbs and managed to achieve ripped bodies and huge muscles without any of the modern high-tech compounds or supplements that line the shelves of the health food stores. So, how did they do it? Well, by the application of tailored diet regimes, lots of exercise and eating the right kind of foods. Today’s body builders have become obsessed with the idea that they need powders, protein shakes and highly evolved diet programs to gain the same results – while the simple truth is that these are just myths perpetuated by a multi-million dollar industry to keep us buying products we don’t need.

Eat Stop Eat shows how to select the diet program that is right for you and how to measure and chart your progress towards your end goal.

Eat Stop Eat Highlight #2: How To Get The Most From Your Diet

Brad shows us that provided you are taking enough calories in and doing the right kind of training, you can amazing results (weight loss, muscle building or even both) using almost any variation of  diet regime. It shows you how to gain results without resorting to some strict schedule and without having to achieve a degree in nutritional science to get the most from your food.

Eat Stop Eat Highlight #3 – The Path To Amazing Weight Loss

Eat Stop Eat shows conclusively how short term fasting works well as an effective method of losing weight. It covers the basic science behind the process and shows you how to avoid some of the potential problems while maximising your results.

The book gives you some simple plans to follow which are a real help if you are struggling to get started. For example, one technique is to eat breakfast and lunch on the first day and then go without food until the following afternoon when you can have a light lunch and then some dinner. Its very easy to do and, to be honest, you will rarely feel hungry.

Another alternative strategy is to fast from 6pm one day until 6pm the next. This allows you to have a fairly large dinner followed by your normal nights sleep and then break your fast with another bigger meal. In fact, one of the most appealing things about this process is that its completely flexible and you can adapt it to suit your lifestyle. The other good thing is that you do eat every day, so its very easy to stick to.

Of course, the best thing about Eat Stop Eat is how it gets your metabolism firing on all cylinders and gets you burning fat at an incredible rate – even while you are sleeping.

Eat Stop Eat Highlight #4: Learn How To Preserve Muscle Mass With Minimal Training

Eat Stop Eat also helps people who are trying to maintain muscle mass. It does this by showing you the most effective way to shift fat by continous, and highly targeted strength training. The regimes shown in Eat Stop Eat have been specially devised to help you get the most from your workouts.

One of the interesting passages in this section of the guide details a study where people followed a low (800) calorie per day regime which lasted for a period of 16 weeks. Interestingly, none of them lost muscle mass but they did, on average, lose an astonishing 25 pounds of fat by following the same kind of exercise regime as contained in the book. Although a low calorie regime is not suitable for everyone, and I always recommend that you seek medical guidance before embarking on one, it does really highlight the effectiveness of these kinds of diet and , whats more, it shows that you dont need to be worried about losing muscle mass or density as the result of a diet.

The human body is remarkably adaptable. For instance, when we are strength training our bodies realize that muscle mass is required and highly necessary. It is only when we are sedentary that our muscle mass begins to diminish (and by the way this will happen anytime you are sedentary for a long period of time, whether or not you are fasting!).

Eat Stop Eat Highlight #5: The Science Of Weight Loss Explained

Eat Stop Eat is more than just another diet guide. While most guides stop short at telling just what to do Eat Stop Eat is, as I have already said, written by a fully qualified nutritional scientist. Its full of background information that explains the whys as well as the hows. Thats something I really enjoyed, and  having the science explained to me not only made it easier to follow but it also cleared up several doubts and concerns that I had.

Eat Stop Eat Highlight #6: Parting The Clouds Of Mis-Information

For me, the single biggest reason for recommending Eat Stop Eat is the way in which it cuts through so much of mis-information (ie lies) floating about regarding the completely fictional ‘starvation mode’. This clear, concise and very readable book empowers you with the information necessary to help you achieve your weight loss goals by removing the fear and doubt surrounding some of the practices.

Eat Stop Eat: Any Downsides?

Well, for one thing I don’t agree with Brad’s advice when it comes to the subject of drinking soda and caffeinated drinks while fasting. In my experience drinking caffeinated or aspartame heavy sodas gives you digestive upset and also makes you cranky. The use of these drinks as a substitute for foods can also lead you to feelings of guilt – that you are in some way cheating the system, and, of course your dentist will want to have a word about the dangers to your teeth and gums.

So, what do I suggest instead. Simple. drink good old pure water. Its refreshing, especially when chilled and it actually helps to charge your metabolic rate even more. If you want to add a slice of lemon  or even some herbal tea. This keeps hunger at bay and doesn’t cause any unwanted side-effects.

I also have a problem with Brads ‘anything goes’ approach to eating. The logic behind his theory that you will lose weight as long as you burn more calories than you consume is hard to fault, but , personally I believe that its simply too hard for most of us to stop at a small bit of pizza, one burger or a solitary donut. Sometimes psychology is just as important as physiology!

Instead, I would advocate a low fat diet with a focus on lots of fresh fruit. This is very refreshing, tasty and much more invigorating.  You can also eat many more calories and still achieve your ideal body weight using this method.

Eat Stop Eat: My Conclusion

In a crowded marketplace, Eat Stop Eat really does stand out from the crowd. Its a refreshingly candid insight into the multi-million dollar weight loss industry and, to be honest, its a great read even if you aren’t thinking of dieting.

If you are a person who wants to lose weight, however, its also one of the most powerfully effective diet regimes that I have ever come across. The techniques are simple to learn, easy to follow and very, very effective.

If you have tried diets before and failed because they are too hard to stick to, too slow to get results from or just too fiddly and time consuming to understand then Eat Stop Eat will come as a welcome change.
